Protea Hill Farm is situated on a hillside in the Winelands of Stellenbosch, SA.
The farm produces fresh fruit for the use of a variety of award-winning balsamic vinegars and oils. All fruits are naturally farmed, which means no insecticides or pesticides are used on the plants or fruits.

Furthermore no colourants, preservatives, flavour enhancers, molasses, caramelized sugars or any chemical substances are used in the production of the vinegars and oils. The fruits are sun ripened and harvested in a 100% ripe condition, which makes the sugar content very high and the taste sweet.
Protea Hill Farm has provided balsamic vinegars, oils and syrups to top restaurants and first class hotels in South Africa for many years and exports to Germany, Switzerland and other EU countries as well as to Dubai, UEA.
For the production of the balsamic fruit vinegars, the berries or fruit pulp is fermented, like a wine, then macerated and aged. The vinegars have the typical balsamic sweet and sour taste with 6% acidity.
The 'Balsamic Raspberry Vinegar' which is kept in wooden barrels, won the award of "Best New Product of South Africa 2006" from the EAT IN Guide and RMB Bank, as a 5 year old balsamic.
In 2007 Protea Hill Farm won the "SA Produce Awards" again with the range of 8 Balsamic Herb Vinegars which are in great demand by leading Chefs countrywide and abroad. The balsamic flower blossom vinegars are nominated for this year's awards.
Our products are available in well known delicatessen outlets, health/bio shops, and upmarket supermarkets as well as being distributed to the restaurant/hotel trade by AST- African Spirit Trading. Only selected Cape wines are used for the balsamic herb vinegars to blend in with the natural flavour of the individual herbs. The herbs for these vinegars are naturally grown and no artificial flavours or chemical substances are added. The balsamic vinegars are sterilized at very high temperatures and bottled in handy square glass bottles of 250ml for easy storage in shelves, shops and households.
Herbs are not always in season and it is extremely convenient for professional and household use to have your favourite herb vinegar handy in a bottle to touch up your food with the desired natural flavour.
Vinegar by its nature is a preservative, so it still ages in the bottle.
Protea Hill Farm has recently added two special oils to their product list.
Absolutely no solvents are used in the processing of these natural pressed oils.
Grape Seed Oil
The preservative-free Grape Seed Oil is cold pressed to preserve its natural qualities. Grape Seed Oil is naturally enriched with mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids, Vitamin E and Bioflavonoids. Grape Seed Oil helps to lower blood cholesterol levels, prevent fat accumulation in the arteries, prevent degenerative disorders associated with ageing and strengthens the immune system.
Apricot Kernel Oil
This oil is light -golden in colour with a nutty, almond-like flavour. Cold-pressed to preserve original and natural qualities, Apricot Kernel Oil is rich in oleic (omega 9), linoleic (omega 6) fatty acids and Vitamin E. It is excellent for cooking, salads and marinades, as it is suitable for high temperature cooking, sauteing, pan-frying and baking.
Apricot Kernel oil also has outstanding results when used for cosmetic and aromatherapy moisturizer and massage oil.
Protea Hill Farm ensures that stocks of balsamic vinegars are sufficient to supply local and international demand. For export they use only 250ml square glass bottles with screw-type tops, built-in pourers and shrink paper for firm closure.
Protea Hill Farm produces a variety of natural, healthy and unique products. They aim to please different tastes with a variety of interesting balsamic vinegar flavours, many of which you will not find anywhere in the world.
